Musician Spotlight Series

A very special THANK YOU to everyone that helped us safely present the Musicians Spotlight Series this fall. Without the cooperation of everyone from the Blair County Arts Foundation/ Mishler Theatre, the musicians, the ASO office staff, and our patrons, we would not have been able to provide this entertainment opportunity to our community!

The ALTOONA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA is excited to announce our Musician Spotlight Concert Series. The Altoona Symphony Orchestra continues to work diligently to navigate the ongoing pandemic situation working with local partners to provide a safe opportunity for patrons to attend live performances. We are proud to offer a Fall Musician Spotlight Series to be held at the Historic Mishler Theatre beginning on Sunday, October 4, 2020.

In a time when we are searching for anything resembling ‘normal’, the ASO is proud to be offering a safe opportunity to attend a live music performance by some of our very own talented musicians, and a few very special guests. The musician spotlight series will feature a few familiar faces. Concert Master Genaro Medina, along with pianist Hugh Sung, will kick things off with a performance on Sunday, October 4th at 2:30pm. Genaro will be presenting classical music treasures of Mozart, Gluck, Strauss, and more.

The second performance in the series will be offered on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at 2:30pm. This performance will feature the Alabaster Trio with principal Oboe, Lenny Young, and his incredibly talented wife, mezzo-soprano, Raquel Winnica Young. Lenny has been featured in front of the ASO on many occasions, and his wife last performed with the ASO at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in 2013. Along with pianist Jack Kurutz, they will perform Revelations featuring works from Schumann, Vivaldi, Rachmaninov, Piazzolla, and more.

The final offering will come in the form of a festive holiday event. On Sunday, December 6, 2020, the Mishler Theatre will once again be filled with the spirit of the season for a Holiday Brass Concert. An Altoona Symphony Brass Quintet will be on display as they celebrate the sights and sounds of this festive time of year. There will even be a safe and fun way for the audience to get involved in the performance!

Tickets can be purchased by calling the Mishler Theatre Box Office:

The Altoona Symphony Orchestra is also proud to be offering an online PAY PER VIEW Live Stream of each performance. Live Streaming will be accessible online only, through Box Cast.

The Live Stream will feature multiple camera angels along with high definition video and sound! If you cannot be here in person, this is the best way to listen in and support the Altoona Symphony Orchestra's efforts to provide live musical entertainment at this time.

The cost is just $10 (including box office fees) per household, and your individualized code can be used to stream on multiple devices from the same internet source. Watch on your phone, tablet, computer, or smart TV!
