In School Workshops and

 Classroom Demonstrations

Our in school workshops act as an introduction to music and instruments. A symphony representative will share basic knowledge of instrument groups within the symphony and demonstrate how each instrument is played. Students will learn about Classical music through music listening, and will have an opportunity to discuss or draw interpretations of what they hear. Real instruments will be on hand for the students to look at, touch and even try! These workshops are given FREE of charge to schools in our service area. For more information please contact the ASO office at 814-943-2500 or email Missy Andre, Office Manager, at aso.office@atlanticbbn.net.

In School

Full Symphony

Performances

The Altoona Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce a new program available for schools throughout our region. In years past many schools used to bus children to and from the Mishler Theatre to observe symphony performances, but now the Symphony could come to you!

How is this possible?

Thanks to a generous Education Grant from the T.Dean Lower and Jane Young Lower Trust.

In School Duet/ Ensemble

Performances

Our Small scale Duet or Ensemble performances are generally meant for larger groups to enjoy. This program also introduces the children to instruments while providing them with an in person demonstration and listening experience  given by our very own professional musicians. They will offer insight into their profession, answer the tough questions like "How long have you been playing?", "How long do you practice every day?" etc... and aim to inspire the students to pick up and play instruments themselves! Please see the video below of our outreach performance at St. Johns School in Lakemont, PA last June.
